Luciano Spalletti is expected to revert back to a 3-4-3 formation in Inter’s UEFA Champions League opener against Tottenham at the San Siro on Tuesday.
Inter Milan are back into the Champions League after a long 6-year gap and they have been drawn into a very tough group B, which includes European giants FC Barcelona, Premier League side Tottenham and Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven.
The Nerazzurri will start their campaign in Europe against Tottenham in front of a sellout San Siro and it will be a Champions League debut for players like Mauro Icardi, Samir Handanovic and Milan Skriniar.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport in Italy, Inter will switch to a 3-4-3 formation, instead of their usual 4-2-3-1, because of injuries to full-backs Sime Vrsaljko and Danilo D’Ambrosio.
Inter played with a back-three against Torino on Matchday 2 and looked very impressive in the first half, before conceding twice in the second.
Joao Miranda will partner Milan Skriniar and Stefan De Vrij in defense, while Khadwo Asamoah and Antonio Candreva are expected to take the wing-back roles.
Matias Vecino will replace Roberto Gagliardini in midfield, as the Italian International is not a part of Inter’s Champions League squad.
Ivan Perisic and Radja Nainggolan will support captain Mauro Icardi in attack.
