SSC Napoli were back to winning ways, after their loss against Liverpool, as they defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in a friendly at St. Gallen on Tuesday.
Napoli took the lead when Arkadiusz Milik tood advantage of a defensive mistake to curl in a beauty from the edge of the box. And while BVB dominated possession they struggled to carve out any real chances of note, and fell further behind on the half-hour mark when Nikola Maksimovic headed in from a corner.
Favre’s charges did get a goal back eventually for Dortmund though, as Philipp tucked in from close range after Pulisic’s shot was deflected into his path. Napoli substitute Jose Callejon dashed any hopes of an equaliser in stoppage time, however, curling in at the back post following a swift break forward.
CARLO ANCELOTTI –
“I saw progress and the team is developing,” Napoli coach began after full-time.
“You can’t compare tonight’s match with the one against Liverpool, which was also due to the opponent’s tactics.”
“Of course, when you’re still in preparation mode, you gradually make improvements. We need time to change things and implement what we have in mind.”
“Tonight we were more compact and we took fewer risks. When we’ve got more gas in the tank, we’ll press a lot more. We’re working hard in training and it’s impossible to maintain such a high tempo.”
“Milik’s Goal? It was very positive for him, but Arek is important to us not only for the goals he scores but also the way he plays. He’s doing well, he needs to improve his fitness but he’s on the right track.”
“The result against Liverpool was down to the occasion and the opponent, but results now make no difference. We’re playing these games to try to improve and take this project forward.”
